This wallpiece is fabricated from brass and copper sheet, patinaed using traditional sculptural bronze patinas on the wings, and two layers of cold patina on the brickwork band. The wings are colored by brushing on the patina while heating the metal to catalyze the reaction with the metal. It takes many layers of patina to build up the transparent brown to a solid color. The blue-green 'bricks' mostly started with a burial patina: burying the part in coarse sawdust or woodturner's waste soaked in a solution of reactive chemicals over the course of a few days. Then some of the bricks were coated with other patinas which react in the air. Though this orientation is my favorite, the piece can be hung any direction up. This piece may be hung outdoors in a protected location.
